MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
Distinguished Delegates and Officials,
It is an honour to invite you all to the 12th Annual Ghana International Model United Nations Conference (GIMUN) 2021 scheduled to take place in Accra on 5– 7 January, 2021 under the theme ‘‘Dealing with the Challenges within a Decade of Transformation’’. The conference features a new exclusive and innovative online simulation due to the challenges of the novel Sars Corona Virus (COVID-19).
With just ten years to go (in the achievement of the 17 Global Goals set out in New York September 2015), progress is being made in many places, but, overall, actions to meet the Goals are not yet advancing at the speed or scale required.
Today, there are new ways of doing things; new ways of education, work, e-commerce and a lot more. A ‘new normal’ is what it has been called. Committee sessions will therefore focus on taking advantage of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and its impact on the developmental agenda of Governments of Member States of the United Nations.
In the next 10 years, we look forward to;
• Work to create an unstoppable force linked to the Global Goals.
• Identify risks to ensure no one is left behind; requiring each of us to take action individually and collectively, on all fronts, both locally and globally.
In the next ten years, we must be the generation to end extreme poverty, win the race against climate change and conquer injustice and gender and racial inequality/discrimination. We will hold leaders to account and point to what is possible when action delivers results. We look forward to shining a light on solutions that expand access and demonstrate the possibilities of ideas driving sustainable innovation, financial investments and technology while making space in our communities and cities for young people to lead.
Provisions have been made in terms of human resource and logistics to ensure all delegates, returning and new, are safe, protected and placed on an even scale to showcase your oratory, research, and negotiation skills on the various issues to be discussed.
Do not miss out on such an experience! Prepare and embolden yourself to engage in world-changing debates as you seize this amazing opportunity to participate in the best Model UN conference in Africa!
On behalf of the entire team, I look forward to welcoming you in January 2021 in Accra!
